Can I escape the seriousness of life through complete spiritual enlightenment?

Absolutely you can. But going all the way to “complete spiritual enlightenment,” is way into overkill territory if that’s all you’re looking to get out of it. You’ll die before you reach it, becoming enlightened is a multi-lifetime process.

Spiritual escape is best accomplished through the use of the leap of faith technique. It’s very simple, you set up a situation in which you walk off a metaphorical cliff and either God catches you or you fall down.

When my mom was in an awful relationship with my alcoholic father, at one point she decided, enough was enough, and threw him out, kicking off a multi-year journey of supporting herself and two young ones with practically zero support from friends and family. We made it, and our lives are immeasurably better for it.

You can take a leap of faith for practically anything. I once made a deal with God when I was burning through savings while doing spiritual explorations. I expected some kind of job or other opportunity to open up before I ran totally out of money. Nothing came up, so I had to move back in with my father. What I thought was an end, was in fact just the next chapter.

Within 2 months I had a new laptop, a new career focus, and the realization that a spiritual life could co-exist with a career. I was taking acting classes before and realized eventually that acting just wasn’t my bag. What I was really suited for was a career in software development and that’s what I did. Years later I would come to participate in that world, as an investor, not a supplicant.

Fear is what keeps us from taking risks. But failing is not the end. Generally when you fail, you are better off at the end of it. Just ignore the things you hate and see what happens. Could be great.
