In Rick and Morty, what would happen if you summoned a Mr. Meeseeks and asked him to just exist and never die?

Mr. Meeseeks would not suffer your foolishness. As he tells Jerry, ”We Meeseeks are not born into this world fumbling for meaning, Jerry! We are created to serve a singular purpose for which we will go to any lengths to fufill! Existence is pain to a Meeseeks, Jerry! And we will do anything to alleviate that pain!”

Think a bit about how Mr. Meeseeks goes about his life. He arrives in a poof of purpose, the purpose given to him by the one who pressed the button granting him the existence that pains him so.

He announces who he is, and then commands your attention, “look at me!” Who does that? If you walked around commanding everyone to “look at you,” people would, so long as you gave them a reason to. It’s the reason, purpose, that makes you respect the command for attention. Without the reason, or with a self-serving one, people just roll their eyes and ignore you like all the other spammers, hucksters, and charlatans of the world.

Mr. Meeseeks does this every single time he talks. He is nothing but pure, unadulterated purpose willing to serve anyone else but him.

There is no messing around with Mr. Meeseeks. He will do anything for you, so long as you respect who he is and what he’s about.

You will give him his singular purpose and allow him to fulfill it, or he will make his pain… yours. Think hard before you hit that button.
