Is it necessary to learn all spiritual jargons for enlightenment or just meditation is enough?

This is a good question because if you think about it very carefully, it really hammers home a basic truth. Knowledge, the contents of your mind, is a crucial component of a spiritual journey, essential for any kind of directed effort.

What is meditation exactly? You sit quietly and observe self. What about that is easy? And once you do manage to get somewhere with the technique, what turns meditation into enlightenment?

Nothing. Nothing at all. Just meditating isn’t enough. Lots get stuck at the first or second jhana. Plenty get all the way to a Dark Night and never resolve it. Merely doing the same thing over and over again is the kiss of death for momentum.

Since you can’t just do the same thing over and over again, there are two basic approaches for coming up with new things to try. You can just guess, going by your thoughts and feelings. This is what most people do. Or you can look to outside sources for new ideas.

The “jargons” are just shorthand for how other people have figured out how to describe these sorts of things. Obviously by themselves they don’t guarantee progress. But if you’re stuck it’s foolish not to take advantage of anything that might help move you forward.
