Can atheists develop a spiritual dimension while still retaining their core beliefs?

Sure. Most of them do it by cultivating an interest in science fiction, or comic books, or the like. These things touch on the transcendent without actually requiring belief in any kind of metaphysics. It’s not a ‘big’ spiritual dimension, but it is one.
