How can I have a back up plan? My girlfriend is fine but I have a gorgeous co-worker who is into me. How can I make her wait until I know for sure if my relationship with my girlfriend will get serious or not?

Your backup plan is to not be a cad. Dear Lord this answer is gonna get collapsed for sure. But that’s what it boils down to.

Look, everyone’s got lives they gotta live. And everyone’s got a certain tolerance for being single. You want to try to convince a wonderful young person with nothing but opportunity to sit around and wait for your relationship to bear fruit or die?

That’s just not how it works. Be nice and friendly and approachable, in other words, a good guy. You’re just not available right now. That’s literally the story of every pretty young woman’s life. So long as you stay nice and friendly and approachable, there will always be a little thing between you, unexplored territory just waiting for the right time and opportunity.

If you stop being nice and friendly and approachable, like say, trying to juggle two women, then you’ll quickly lose both of them.

If you’re not serious with your girlfriend, then there’s no reason you can’t break up with her and get with the new lady. I’m guessing you’re young, young people need good reasons to stay together, not to break up. If you’re already looking out for the next new squeeze, then do your girlfriend a favor and let her go find hers.

Because there’s a good chance she’s just waiting for it to end too.
