Spirituality, among other things, involves the contemplation and realization that humans are not the only sentient beings we interact with on a moment-to-moment basis. You may not get there in this lifetime, every individual has their own set of foci when it comes to the spiritual world, but one day, your Earthly existence will bring you into contact with the impossibly-diverse array of beings that do not share our physicality.
These beings all seem to have their main differences along one main divide, are they more interested in submitting to a higher power, or are they more interested in being the higher power.
Even those who see and interact daily with these spirits more often than not don’t ever take the next step in understanding where and how these spirits operate. They exist in and all around us, contributing to our mental functioning. Have you ever had a thought that you were like, “that thought wasn’t like me, it had to come from somewhere else!” You were right, and it didn’t.
The reality is, our minds are too immature to be able to come up with their own, fully formed, cohesive ideas. This is why spiritual practice around learning how to surrender is important. We lack the ability to operate under our own power so we must learn how to let others take the helm and just decide which way to go instead of every little detail of how to get there.
It isn’t just us that’s immature and incapable, all the spirits contributing to our daily thoughts are the same way too. This is a fundamental law, beings must experience things sequentially, not in parallel. One thing at a time. This is the most pleasant, easy way to live. Nobody wants to have to do a million things at once. We want everything to make sense, everything to turn out well.
But beings are ignorant and so things that make sense aren’t likely to turn out well. All we can have is the illusion of correctness and validity.
The other spirits are the same way. So why are our minds determined by spirits and not the other way around. Simple, spirits have learned how to cooperate.
There are billions of spirits that exist in and around us. Does this sound weird? Think about the brain. There are over 50 billion neurons in the brain. We are already collective organisms of a scale our minds can scarcely comprehend. All of these itty bitty cells have evolved the capability to act independently, yet still in contribution to one agency, you.
You have a singular mind, a singular agency, contributed to by billions of cells, and still more spirits. You are a veritable sovereign monarch, reigning over all of these entities, in such an absolute fashion that you are able to completely ignore them, and there is very little possibility of rebellion. Any thoughts the spirits come up for you, you just take for yourself, no spirit ever gets credit, not by you anyway.
Helping you to come to an awareness to yourself is the primary impetus behind all the activity of all the spirits. And all the spirits want you to be more like them. And the primary distinguishing factor in our personalities is good and evil, love of the Lord and of sharing with vs love of taking from others and having dominion.
The hierarchy is always present, always was present, always will be present. We will always exist amongst peers, lesser beings, and much, much higher entities. Our primary goal is to decide how we will handle this basic fact.
Those who wish to, who enjoy, who love the higher entities, the ones we call God, or angels, the ones who encourage us to align and cooperate and devote our conscious attention to creating more goodness and truth in the world, they will forever be in conflict with those who want the opposite. It’s fundamental, timeless, and ever-present.
It’s only after you acknowledge the dichotomy, recognize the need to choose, and making the choice, putting it far behind you, can you finally exist in a world in which the more interesting shades of gray exist.
So the spirits fight ruthlessly in your mind, laboring endlessly to bring you over to their side. If you thought politics made for heated disputes, they have nothing over what the spirits do to coax us to their sides. Forget conservatism vs liberalism. Evil and good exist on both sides of that spectrum. And the greatest trick evil plays is to convince us that one side has all the good people on it.
