Does being hit on feel good as a young woman?

Let’s let the cast of Victorious have the first say on this topic…

The very first line of the song gets to the bottom of the issue. “Why am I always hit on by the boys I never like?” The thing is that “hitting on” someone is just a creepy way of interacting. It is, essentially, an entitled attention grab. The way it feels varies all the way from indifference to disgusting.

There’s interacting with someone, and then there’s hitting on them. When you hit on someone, you’re not really treating them as a person, more as an object. If she feels like she’s being objectified, well that never feels good. If she feels respected and appreciated, well that feels good.

Let’s return back to that first lyric. What if a boy she likes were to hit on her? “You had me at "hello", then you opened up your mouth.” She liked them before, but then the words that came out of his mouth after ‘hello’ turned her off. So a ‘boy she likes’ could never hit on her because as soon as he starts hitting on her, he’s no longer a boy she likes!

If you want to know how it feels, just imagine the last person you would ever be attracted to eyeing you up like a piece of meat, then making their intentions unmistakably clear. Would that feel good to you?
