Are you guys actually in a relationship or did you just have a few dates?
In either case, generally, yes. I’ll speak generally about relationships because it’s the more interesting situation.
The largest aspect to a relationship isn’t actually the sex or anything like that. It’s how the other person weighs on your mind when you’re not together. “Moving on” is the process of replacing the person you think about the most with either someone else or with just being single and working on yourself.
Once you’ve done this, getting back with the other person often feels like moving backwards in your life. You don’t want to do it even if you could. Relationships should be transformative. You’re not the same person going into them as you are coming out of them.
You need to move on, but perhaps you don’t know quite how. The best way is to examine your last relationship and try to glean some lessons from it. Maybe you were too overbearing or you just picked the first thing that came along that looked nice and made you feel pretty.
A nice thing to have is a sense of closure. It should be easy to get since he’s still willing to be friends with you. It can be as simple as just asking him a few questions regarding why you guys aren’t together anymore.
