A2A, he never was in love with you, so he couldn’t have fallen out of love. Love happens over a long period of time, not overnight.

A cynical reading of the events you presented has him not looking for a real person, but rather someone to fill a role in his life. My take on it is that you guys are just looking for different things in life and a relationship simply wouldn’t have worked no matter what.

The frame he seemed to be operating from is to first find someone who can meet his basic relationship needs, then hope romance flowers on top of that.

I think you just need to let this one go. You’re romantically-minded and he’s relationship-minded.
