Is it true that in Jesus' time the crosses used for executions were X shaped, not the familiar T shape?

I don’t think so. The primary sources we have of Roman crucifixion were pretty consistent with the physiological effects of T-shaped crucifixion. X-shaped crucifixion wouldn’t have been nearly as horrific.
