Should I fire a software engineer for working on his side projects during office hours? I am the co-founder and CTO of a startup, and just discovered a software engineer spending two to three office hours a day on his own projects.

For two weeks, give him a crushing workload that doesn’t give him any time for side projects. Micromanage and give him shit about it in front of his coworkers. Then pull him into a closed door meeting and let him know that his openness about fucking off is causing problems with the rest of the staff and to keep it off the radar.

If he can’t be a team player, then fire him.
