Is being too honest a sign of low intelligence?

When I was a kid I realized that some kids liked to lie. I never saw the point of lying. I found it way more useful to just keep my mouth shut when there was information I didn’t want you to know.

When you lie as a kid you are giving someone who is probably smarter and savvier than you information that will probably lead them right to the information that you don’t want them to know. If you don’t say anything then they literally have nothing to go on.

I realized that one lie led to another lie led to another lie, eventually you’re living a life of lies. It was just easier to be truthful or silent.

I think smart people lie, I think dumb people lie. If you start lying to me I lose respect for you.

Living truthfully doesn’t mean you are “too honest.” Just like I did when I was a kid, you have a way more useful tool in your toolbox to manage the information you give out to others. Silence. Silence commands respect, lying destroys it.

If someone lies, then that tells me they don’t have the intelligence to shut their mouths.
