I don’t think it crosses their minds much. The truth of God is bigger than anybody’s belief or lack of belief.
Look, let’s put aside this whole belief business and look at normal, everyday reality. Do atheists pray? Are they spiritual? Are they religious?
I would argue that the answers to each of those questions is yes. If you’ve ever hoped hard for something to happen, you’ve prayed. If you’ve ever had an epiphany about something bigger than yourself and your life, you’ve had a spiritual experience. If you follow, consider, analyze, spend lots of time with a reality that isn’t your own, like, say, when you read fiction or follow comic fandom you were religious.
You did all of those things, you just didn’t involve God. Or maybe you did. Ever hear of Lady Luck? Sounds an awful lot like a deity to me. Maybe you didn’t invoke a deity’s name, you just hoped really hard. Where does the line between hoping and praying lie?
If you want to sit there and tell me you don’t believe in God, while you go to Star Wars conventions and read science fiction, I’m just going to sit there, smile, and revel in the sheer majesty of God.
