How do you categorize a relationship with a guy who cares deeply for you, deeply values your opinion of him, but says you are too young?

Closeness is a really strange and wonderful quality to have with a person. As you get closer and closer to someone, it’s easy for the rest of the world to just fall away. It’s like living in a fairy tale, reality takes a back seat. But eventually the story ends and you both have to come back to earth and live in the real world with all these silly idiots and your silly job and everything.

It can feel really weird getting wrenched back and forth, to and from Narnia, but it’s an essential skill to learn as you grow up.

In five years or so, after you get out of school if you’re in college, a relationship with a mid-twenties lady won’t look half as weird to a mid-thirties guy. You guys will probably eventually find your time in the sun.

I’m 33, I could never see myself in a relationship with a college-age girl. About all I could muster up is a close friendship, maybe even casual sex partners. But close friendship with sex is dangerously close to a relationship, it’s one or the other really.
