If you lost a six figure salary job and were having difficulty finding another job in your field, would you take a minimum wage job in the meantime? Why or why not?

Once you’re making six figures salary, a minimum wage job isn’t even going to come close to keeping you afloat should you experience a job loss. My car and mortgage alone amount to $2.5K/month. At this point, the time spent working a low wage job just isn’t worth it. I’m better off plowing all the time into finding another job in my field.

And you’re usually very used to the easy life. I can think back to all the jobs I’ve had in the past, would they hire me again? Not a chance, once they look at my resume.

The nice thing is that I have an excellent relationship with my bank and family, this social safety net would be enough to keep me afloat for a little while.

If I found myself truly unemployable in my field, it’s time to downsize. Dump the car, dump the condo, buy a cheap used car, move back in with my parents, figure out my next move then. I think I’d wind up buying land and a trailer, then building a tiny house.
