Is it rude to tell your girlfriend to "cover up" when she goes out?

Rude has been mentioned. Controlling. Jealous. All these things are true.

But I want to add that it’s disrespectful. Women in general are pretty aware of how their clothing choices make other people feel. They’ll change around their clothing picks to fit their mood. If they feel sad or down and not particularly social, they’ll dress accordingly, so as to not attract attention.

When they’re feeling fun and delightful and happy, like say, when they’re with their boyfriend, hey’ll dress in an attention-getting manner. Their attire will affect how others see and interact with them. Then other people will interact with you and them in a more fun way.

To tell her to cover up is to tell her how you want her feeling when she’s around you. Controlled, sad, unhappy. Not willing to attract attention. It’s not just controlling, it’s disrespectful. Disrespectful to the relationship. Disrespectful to how you ordinarily make her feel.
