Because it’s ten times easier. Scratch that, online dating is a hundred times easier.
With online dating, you can build and iterate and refine a process. Ever hear of the concept of a sales funnel? You advertise through a marketing channel, the purpose being to drive inquiries to a phone line or email marketing list or whatever. Once you have hot prospects, you tailor marketing messages to them. These messages have a hit rate of people who buy your product / service.
It’s an engine that all you have to do is build and tune. The dating services themselves help you by tailoring their service to making numbers games easier to process. Once you have a working engine, whether it’s sales or dating, then you have a repeatable, reliable method for turning time spent into dollars or dates.
Personally, I don’t do online dating. It’s not because I find it harder than regular dating. I don’t. Online dating is way way easier to find dates. But to use sales funnel terminology, online is only the top of the funnel for me. There’s still a massive amount of space between finding dates and my goal, finding the perfect spouse. Online helps with one, tiny, part of the equation.
I choose offline because just seeing a person in person once, for me, is a thousand times more illuminating than reading their profile pic. I don’t mind doing approaches and getting rejected if my filter’s off.
