Is it stupid to tell your religious family that you're an atheist?

I wouldn’t exactly call it stupid, but I wouldn’t call it smart either. At best, they’re going to file it with all the other ridiculous things you’ve said in the past and use it to tease you with.

At worst they go apeshit and start doing things like dragging your sorry butt to church.

Society and families have changed so much in between the times your parents were kids and now. I practically consider that America to be a totally different country. You might as well be being raised by Martians for all you know about their motivations.
