Why are some atheists arrogant and abusive towards religious people?

Because they think they're smarter than believers. It really is that simple. When I was an atheist, I thought I was smarter than those silly sky fairy believers.

It's nothing special really. Everybody thinks they're smarter than everybody else. I still think I'm smarter. But I got even more smart after I worked out that I needed to have a sense of humility.
