Why do girlfriends say hurtful things on purpose?

I’ve been on the receiving end of pointed jabs, and I think what a lot of it is, is that we fall in love so hard when we’re young that we often are totally wrapped up in our own feelings. We start to wonder whether the other person is just as madly in love as we are. Am I dating a sociopath with no emotions? Let me find out by saying the most hurtful thing I can to them.

Young, pretty girls can take their pick of interested young guys, driving one away with hurtful behavior isn’t going to wreck her world or anything. So you can definitely get some blasé cruelty going on.

Takes awhile to develop the thick skin needed to date a modern princess. I’ve definitely dished out my fair share of nasty barbs. A lot of times, we don’t even know we’re doing it.

But eventually, you can get to a point where you welcome the hurtfulness, it rolls off your back and lets you know that you’re breaking through their emotional walls.
