I’m a wannabe armchair historian, I don’t read nearly enough to be a real historian, but in my not-even-amateur opinion, women thinking they don’t need feminism anymore just really don’t know what they’re talking about, any more than atheists do when they claim that atheism is ‘just’ a lack of belief. Both profoundly misunderstand their targets.
What they are doing that I like is being sex-positive. I think that’s really needed right now. Men are running scared from their sexualities and that’s not a good thing. I think they’re wrong in an unimportant way, (not understanding the past) but right in the way that really matters for the present day and age.
Another thing people misunderstand is fashion. You can learn a lot about a society and culture by looking at its fashions, just like any other artistic medium. Time spent thinking about, creating, and enjoying fashion is not wasted time.
Here is a great article about how fashion intersects with social mores:
The History of Pocket Design Is Way More Sexist Than You May Think
These women are on the cutting-edge of feminism. They’re being more feminist than actual feminists by saying they don’t need feminism anymore. It’s all part and parcel of how ideas and social constructs evolve. The point of view that they don’t need feminism anymore is fashion, not philosophy. It’s bad philosophy, just like how atheism is bad philosophy, but it’s great fashion.
If you’re wondering why I stick it to atheists so much, it’s because I’m trying in my own silly way to be fashionable.
