A2A, distance is one of those things that plays a much, much bigger role in the arc of a relationship than we think. When we’re lonely, it’s tempting to think a long distance relationship is better than no relationship, but the ugly fact is that an LDR gives us only an illusion of fulfillment.

We subconsciously prioritize what is right in front of us. If you are not in front of your SO, then you are not going to be prioritized. You may be holding yourself to a standard of behavior that the other doesn’t feel obligated to himself.

It sucks, but you have to stop thinking about this as a relationship. You had a brief fling when he was in town, now you are not a major player in his life. Not major enough to make life decisions around. Just move on.
