Why is the break up that I'm going through so hard to get over? Could I have prevented this from happening?

Heartbreaks and breakups are difficult because your brain literally feels like it’s dying. During my last heartbreak I jumped into the gym and just worked out 2–3 hours a day. I’d get on a hybrid cardio machine and work out for as long as I needed to, then wander around when I didn’t have anything else to do and eat and just try to take care of myself. I’d go back to the gym when the feelings started coming back.

As your old life dies, you need to learn about yourself in order to restart things. Examine your behaviors and your feelings and motivations. Resolve to live life better. A breakup gives you a weird kind of energy. Use that energy to actually follow through on your resolution. Long hours on cardio machines give you a lot of time and space and unbroken attention to think.

Breakups seem to be how the majority of young Americans introduce change into their lives. Don’t let the opportunity go to waste.
