Can free will exist with the conception of God?

There are worse things than God’s disappointment. You could provoke his wrath.

I watched this documentary on the Amish yesterday. Not only do I find the Amish fascinating, I also found the couple themselves to be just really, really interesting. They decided to, against the wishes of their community, allow a documentary crew to film them and their lives.

They had prayed for weeks, perhaps months, asking God if they should do this. They risked excommunication from their primary spiritual community. The wife broke down into tears on camera just thinking about it.

But they did it anyway, because they really believed in proselytizing the word of God.

What I found fascinating was the numerous shades of religious belief. Spirituality is massively complex, but even circumscribed to religious ideas, there is a dizzying complexity of ways to believe in God.

God doesn’t need you to believe a certain way, he is merely interested in the fact that you learn and grow over the course of a lifetime. Its us humans that care about ‘right’ ways of believing and living.
