God: Who/What is God?

Interesting question. You asked “who” rather than “what.” This implies personalization rather than form. So lets imagine a personality for God.

A long long time ago in a galaxy far far away, there was a person, not unlike yourself. This person was not like a human, and this galaxy was nothing like our galaxy. The galaxies were, well, different. The persons, well, more like Hercules than Walter White. Larger than life.

The important thing about the galaxies and the persons was that it was possible for the persons to master the universe. We can’t do that in our world because physics. But this world was one in which an intelligence could come to dominate. He would first become immortal, then become all-powerful.

With immortality and power, the elements that made him a being were stripped away from him. No longer bound by time or constraints, anything he wanted, he could have.

Well, when any intelligence reaches this state, there’s only so much it can do before it does everything. Intelligences tend to die at this point, maybe the first couple of Gods died before one decided to stick around and actually put its resources towards figuring out what to do with its time.

Personality, the focus of our query, differentiates based on history and environment. The personality of God is that of an infinitely patient, infinitely benign father. The only thing that really fulfills when you have everything is creation. The most interesting thing to create is oneself.

So God creates little versions of him to run around and have lives and enact little dramas.
