How did you feel when you first fell in love?

It took two solid months of talk therapy before I could admit to myself that I was in love with my girlfriend. Once I did, there wasn’t any big release of feelings or anything, it felt like realizing I had grabbed the wrong bag of food at McDonalds.

My heart had been broken by this girl multiple times, but I still held onto her because I’m really, really weird. I plumb the depths of that weirdness all the time, it’s not that I don’t have emotions, but that they just don’t work the same way they do in other people. My girl and I work in a way that would be really really hard for me to replace in someone else. It’s not that I didn’t try to. I did.

Love doesn’t always feel like the movies. Sometimes it feels like an old comfy blanket.
