Do Christians engage in prayer while still indulging in sin?

You cannot sin while you are praying. You can sin before, you can sin after, but you cannot sin at the same moment that your heart and mind are filled with Christ. You have to take your mind off of Christ in order to turn it to something else so that you can leave the embrace of Christ in order to pursue this other thing that invariably leads to some form of sin.

It is no problem. If human minds could be engaged with Christ at all times, then there would have been no need for Him to walk the Earth and give us an example of how to live rightly and justly. But they cannot, and so we must turn away from Christ and then turn back towards Him for forgiveness and absolution.

With time and guidance from the Lord, you can find a way of life where your old ways of sinning no longer arise. Does this mean you’ve stopped sinning or are no longer capable of sinning? No! You still turn away from Christ, you just aren’t seeing how or where yet.

Again, this is no problem. There is no perfection but the Lord. Rest your mind in the knowledge that we are all sinners and do the best you can to turn to the Lord for forgiveness and guidance. Forgiveness is free for any who think to ask.

Guidance is what’s tricky, you must work hard to be guided by the Lord. Many hours of prayer is needed sometimes, for the smallest of messages which are the easiest to overlook. But to those who have learned how to be guided by the Lord, heaven awaits, not just after death, but also here on Earth.
