What common mistakes do people make when choosing a life partner?

The biggest mistake I see is that people choose too early. They go looking for marriage when they really just need to get their shit together.

It takes time to figure out what you like and don’t like and why you like and don’t like those things. It takes time to get established in a career to where you don’t have to worry where your next paycheck is coming from.

The number one reason marriages break up is over money. There are some couples that can weather financial troubles, but those are are mind-numbingly rare. There is no strain on a relationship like that of one partner having to financially support the other one.

Do yourself a yuuuge favor and keep it in your pants until you can support a child. Then only get involved with someone who you can see yourself raising one with. People talk about STIs but unwanted pregnancy is a much bigger pain in the lifestyle. My sister doesn’t even want her kids anymore and lets my mom raise them. I can think of few things that can happen to you in this life that are sadder than that.
