Is it worth buying a new MacBook Pro 15 inch for programming?

When I first started coding professionally, I was using an old ThinkPad T40 with Ubuntu as my daily driver. One of the first things I bought with my money was a MacBook Pro. I now use MacBooks exclusively for coding.

If you have to ask the question, that means you probably could be better using the money on other things. You don’t need a Mac to code with. But it’s a lot more pleasant to do so, and it’s a nice symbol of your professionalism.

If I were you, I’d save the money and buy an old ThinkPad and put Linux on it and use that until you feel it’s time for an upgrade. Put the difference towards groceries and rent.
