What would it take to end the United States?

Peace. That’s the only thing that could do it.

You can’t unseat the US with warfare, because you cannot invade it. The only thing you can do is create a world in which the US’s overwhelming military advantage is moot. The only thing that can do that is a world of endless, unsullied peace.

In a peaceful world the US’s geographic isolation becomes its biggest hindrance. It’s basically Australia compared to huge market economies like China and what Africa would be if it could stop letting children run things. When populations get to 20–30 billion, if the world manages to stay peaceful, the US will look as archaic as the British Empire does now.

Carriers? Who needs ‘em? Drones? What are you going to do with those?
