Dating happens in stages. If you have hangups at any stage, your relationship down the line suffers. For example, if you are uncomfortable with open and clear expressions of how you’re feeling, like me, then you’ll have a tough time making your preferences known and your partner will end up running the show.

To cure these issues, you have to first identify them, then work to change yourself so they don’t come up again and again. Love happens when you’ve cleared out enough of these hangups so that you naturally fall into wonderful, mutually-beneficial relationships.

Everybody learns differently. Some people do best in relationships, some people do best alone. I wouldn’t say that one is better than the other. Some people can spend years by themselves and then find the love of their lives. It’s a personal journey and everybody has their own way of walking it.

So my answer to your question is to never stop learning and growing and to never be afraid to “go there.”
