If someone were to sit in a room from 9 to 5, Monday to Friday, and press a button and they are paid $1 per press, what psychological effects would there be on them?

I’ve done plenty of shit jobs in my day and this would just be one more of them. But it would be the last shit job I would ever have to do. For me it would be a race against boredom. I would probably wind up setting a goal and would quit the very second I reached it. Perhaps 5 million. The prospect of finishing and moving on to my new life as a multi-millionaire would cause me to structure the other 16 hours of my day around my day job. I’d get plenty of sleep, and just accept that this is a temporary phase in my life and just jump all in.

I’d expect the psychological effects to be minimal, if any. I’ve put up with worse already.

Now, if someone couldn’t wrap their brains around it and let the money feedback loop get to their head and let the boredom gnaw at them, I’d expect them to wind up doing a lot of drugs in their off time and end up in a downward spiral.

But me? I’d be just fine.
