How can you tell if a woman is in love with you?

Some of my favorite Quora questions to answer are those without any supporting context at all. I’m just supposed to solve the whole world’s problems in one go. I never back down from a challenge.

So, in an ideal world, a relationship will start with a sexual interest, develop into a romantic one, then progress through dating to a relationship. Then, after about a year of being in that relationship, you finally decide to get married.

Before you even start dating, you should have your life together. This means at the minimum a job, ideally a career, and your own place.

If you break any of these rules, it means girls will take you commensurately less seriously as a possible mate. Got that? Good.

A woman, if she is “in love” with you, is usually one of two things. Either she’s very young and doesn’t quite know what love is yet, and is mistaking infatuation and/or a working relationship for love, or you’ve already got all of the above handled and you’ve found the love of your life.

If it’s not one of those two things, then it’s somewhere in the middle. Maybe there’s a romantic spark but nobody’s acted on it. Maybe you’re dating but there’s a lot of game playing going on. Maybe you’re in a relationship but one or both of you keeps one foot out by holding on to opposite-sex friendships. Maybe you have a working relationship but you’re still living at your parents so she’s not going to take you seriously until you grow up.
