Should I feel ashamed for being rejected by someone I like?

No, you shouldn’t feel ashamed. The reason why is rejection isn’t always personal, in fact the majority of times it isn’t. If you were really short and she liked really tall guys, I wouldn’t take that personally. A lot of times it boils down to stuff like, “I’m not really interested in dating right now.” Sure if you were Brad Pitt she’d make an exception but there aren’t a whole lot of those out there and you shouldn’t feel bad about not being one.

I got laughed at once when I approached a girl to ask her out. I shrugged it off and moved on with my life. Getting judged by others isn’t the end of the world.

I’m reminded of this scene in that old nineties flick The Mighty Ducks where the goalie of the hockey team was afraid of getting hit by the puck. The coach had them tie him to a goal so he couldn’t move and then had the whole team take shots at him. With all the padding none of it hurt and he got over his fear in a single afternoon.

If you like someone, talk to them, and then ask them out. The world isn’t going to end.
