Forgetting about your ego is the process of becoming enlightened. It is the end of a long journey that starts with learning how to remember.
Your will is weak. It doesn’t hold on to things. as a result, your efforts to better yourself will inevitably run into the limits of your attention span.
So the first step in this goal is to learn how to stay aware of your spiritual nature, at all times. Because the second you forget, you lose all momentum until you ‘wake back up’ again to your spiritual nature. You must remember.
Once you can maintain awareness, the next step is to learn. Ingest information from whatever source you can find, or if you have a multitude of sources, from whatever source beckons.
It will point you to the meat of the matter, which is training your inner spiritual sense. Your understanding of possibility and your own potential are flawed, belief in a better you and a better world must be inculcated.
Over time your spiritual senses will get more and more reliable, and this might tempt you into stopping your spiritual growth. This places your ego back in charge. You must keep learning and growing, because ego is wily, it finds ways to sabotage you, even if you have learned to remember your spiritual nature.
You must keep going until you reach an inflection point, the point of no return. This is called awakening. Before you were merely aware, in the slow process of emerging from your sleep.
Once awake, there is no going back to sleep. Spiritual progress becomes automatic, no longer is there any need to push yourself.
But you are not yet enlightened. Awakening creates the spiritual cycle, this cycle must be mastered. The first Dark Night happens after the first awakening, and it’s the most hellish. Soon you will snap out of it and your spiritual nature will be battered and bruised. It needs to heal. Once healed, you will naturally begin another awakening, which will be followed by another Dark Night, and so on.
The ups and downs of the cycle slowly smooth out over time, producing an everlasting peace which never leaves and cannot be threatened. This is enlightenment.
But wait, there’s more!
Enlightenment is just the beginning. From the sense of everlasting peace you slowly become aware, not just of the transcendent truths lying behind existence, but also the unfolding of a presence larger than you could ever fathom.
This is God. No longer an abstract concept, but rather a very real presence in your life. Your momentum has built up to a point where your every thought and action is given the loving embrace of God. Well, it was before, but now you’re aware of it, that sheer, brilliant majesty.
Your ego slowly fades away like the morning dew. Now you can finally forget it was ever there, if you want. Wipe mind clear and let God direct. Or hold onto it and continue as an individual. It’s all good either way, and it only ever gets better.
