What does it take to be a web developer?

Rather than thinking in terms of technologies to learn, you should be thinking in terms of projects to put in your portfolio. You’ll learn way more, and have something real to show in interviews. Pick something interesting, a buddy of mine picked a Battleship game web app, and work in some techs that you’d like to work with. My buddy decided to learn websockets.

Start working on these projects and at the same time start going to meetups and putting out resumes. Eventually you’ll find a job. The demand is just too high for talent. If you’re motivated and lucky, you can find a job within the week. Just keep building and keep meeting people.
