What's the best way to ask for someone's number who is way out of your league?

My formula is to:

ask for a date first, then assuming she says yes, then
figure out where you want to go, I like to let her pick the place, then
nail down a date and time, then
finally, to open up your phone and ask for her number. Immediately send a text so she has yours.

Do not contact her again until the day of the date, then, only to confirm that she still wants to go out and to coordinate the sundry details like where you guys will meet, who is picking who up. I like to keep things very business-like, but friendly, until you’re sitting down together across from each other, drinking in each other’s beauty.
