Should a man chase only those women who he himself finds most physically attractive?

First off, don’t chase women. Ask them out. Let them tell you yes, or no. If they tell you no, don’t push it, just ask another one out.

Second, you need to be able to build a relationship on more than just sex. You say in your comment that “looks are not everything, but they help,” but that’s not the mentality coming across in your question.

The mentality coming across is, “I’m insecure about my looks and my masculinity and my worth as a human being, I’m going to sleep with the hottest women I can so I can feel better about myself.”

Do what you have to do to feel better about yourself. You won’t listen to anybody else trying to tell you differently anyway. I don’t think you should ‘settle’, because the last thing I’d want to inflict on any decent woman is a relationship with a guy who feels like he is settling for her.
