What do white people really feel about black people?

Do white people understand what it means to be black in America? Of course not, because if they did, “being black in America” wouldn't be any different than being white in America. As well ask a (non-flying) fish what it's like to fly.

Racism would end overnight if every white person could be black for a day. (Not at the same time!)

It's really weird when you look at it from an ethnic point of view. Black people and white people speak the same language and, after desegregation, share mostly the same institutions. But their experiences are so different that it took reading a world class work of ethnography to even put the differences on white America’s map.
