Why do people say Quora isn't a dating site when it has clearly brought couples together?

Dating is building a romantic connection with strangers. Quora is not focused on that. It is an evolution on the web forum. Web forums are about community, building friendships. There are lots of fun, attractive, lovely people on Quora that I would love to date. But I live in Atlanta. Quora does not try to show me local Atlantans. That’s what I would need in a dating site.

Romance, like all truly wonderful things in life, requires close physical presence. Quora is not designed around that, so romantic possibilities are necessarily limited. Im not wholly opposed to dating someone I met on Quora, but they’d have to already be in Atlanta. The chances of someone I’m attracted to on Quora living in Atlanta are really low.

Friendship makes fewer demands on a person’s time and energy, so you can do it without the need for physical presence.
