My friend is a college student majoring in Animation, but her drawing skills are not practiced during her teens. Is it possible for her to succeed?

Generally an animator isn’t going to do much drawing themselves. I’m a web developer, I do not design websites. I just write the code that makes them work. In a complex undertaking like a website or an animated television show or game or something, the art is handled separately from the tech, because generally you need a different mindset and different skills to do each well.

I’d say that having done a lot of drawing in the past is going to make you a better animator, but it’s by no means necessary to be good at it.
