As hard as you want to make it. You have practical concerns, i.e. how are you going to support yourself while you go do this, and you have personal concerns, i.e. whether you can really drop everything and go do this new thing. Both of these kinds of concerns compound as you age, so I would prioritize it sooner rather than later.
If you’re young, and you can work out the practical concerns, I’d say go for it and let the rest sort itself out. If you’re older, and you can get the personal concerns sorted, then the practical should work itself out.
My step-father is studying for a degree and holding down a demanding job at the same time. So you don’t have to really put your life on hold. So there’s that option too. But it sounds like you really want a break.
