Who has the worst lingering hatred: US blacks & whites, Germans & Jews, Japanese & Chinese?

Who cares? Why do you want to focus on hate? Isn’t the whole point to bring us all together? Do we really want to go dredging through the past for horrible things people have done to each other, all just to compare who has the most hate?

I would hope no one hates anyone. Hate is a horrible thing to live with. Not even out and out racists actually hate the people they’re racist against. It’s mostly just ignorance and fear. Those can be fixed. Hate can’t be fixed. Hate generally lives with you until you die.

I could tell you some stories about Algeria that would utterly depress you. There’s a lot of real hatred there, because the events that happened are still remembered by the people that lived through them. Generally this sort of thing is only ‘healed’ after the people that lived through them die. That’s how bad they were. We’re talking massacres here.

Stop being so flippant about this stuff. It’s real and it still goes on. Maybe not quite as violent as slavery and massacre, but still really awful.

Now anger is a different story. Anger is fresh; it doesn’t linger the same way hate does. Oppressed peoples certainly feel a lot of anger towards the people that oppress them. Wherever I can, I acknowledge the right of black people and females and native Americans to be angry towards white people. I accept it and allow it to make me feel sad and angry too, even though I can never truly understand it because I’m not being oppressed.

If we as a society could stop oppressing people, then the anger would disappear overnight. The newly empowered people would be too busy enjoying their newfound power and freedom to find time to get angry about how they used to be treated. But hate, as I’ve stated doesn’t disappear because hate happens as a result of truly horrific events.
