If you want to be an effective web developer, then the way to go about it is through self-study rather than college classes. The unfortunate thing about college when it comes to web development is that technologies change entirely too quickly for courses to keep up, so colleges mostly don’t even bother trying.
Web development involves stitching together a ton of different kinds of tech in order to make things work. You’re never going to be able to learn all of them before you take on a job. You can only learn enough so that it’s relatively easy to pick up the rest on the job.
The only thing that can really help you career-wise is your choice of major. If it’s not computer science then it might as well be art history. But a computer science education is insufficient preparation for a real job in the real world. Your best bet is to build websites as side projects. Take this bright young lady’s cue:
