Why do women always have to prove something to someone? When will that change?

It took me a long time to figure out how not to contradict most everything my girlfriend says. At first I was like, “but that’s what it means to have a conversation!” You seize on a point of contention you have with your discussion partner and you work it out until you come to an understanding. Right? Right?

Only works if the two of you have similar interests and similar outlooks. If you don’t, then it’s real easy to come off like an ass. A person can listen listen listen, but if every time he opens his mouth he sounds like a judgmental moron, nobody’s going to want to talk to him. They’re going to wonder, “what does he have to prove?”

I had to learn how to not be as combative with her as I ordinarily am with my guy friends. Of course now she’s the one that seems like she’s getting defensive and I’m the one that gets to tease her about it. It’s all great fun.
