How do I remain friends with my crush?

I am not going to deal with the question of whether you should even try. I'll just assume you know what you're after. I'm also guessing she either rejected you or you got it in your head that she would reject you if you made a move.

What you should do if you want a female friend in your life is to project safety and friendliness. You want her, above all else, to feel comfortable spending time with you. My surefire approach for this is to work out how to place fewer and fewer demands on her. We often place unreasonable demands on women that we are attracted to, pushing them away. I work on actively doing the opposite.

It is not a good approach to use if you want to date her, as it has the tendency of throwing romantic attraction out of the window. But if she is someone you want to keep in your life badly enough that you’re willing to kill your chances of dating her, that's how to do it.

I am trying to work out a way to keep romance going while also being a solid, reliable friend. It is very difficult. You get hurt a lot until you learn to manage your emotions and get over the fact that just being a good guy doesn't automatically make you attractive. It's a weird and hard lesson to learn, but anyone who fancies himself a gentleman has to.
