Not terribly. Religion is a tool for individuals and for society. It’s a way for people to find themselves against each other and God. As we grow and change, and our societies grow and change, the religions we used to do that become less and less important, and so we come up with new religions. And we are in an age now where religion is of very little use to society as a whole, but could well be important for some smaller groups of people.
It does bear mentioning that Christianity was used to justify American slavery, this willingness we had to believe that God was on our side as we brutally subjugated an entire ethnic group of people that we imported here for that express purpose, it made that oppression many times worse than in other parts of the world. Evil done in the name of God is always going to be worse than the same evil not so justified.
It also bears mentioning that the entire story of Jesus, from his birth to his death is characterized by rebellion against all kinds of social control. Sure he talked about the afterlife and souls and stuff, but what he really wanted us to do was to follow God, and not man.
If God is pulling you in a different direction than organized religion, by all means see what He has to show you!
